THE SHOOTING SEASON for this bird is from November to January and takes place in County Connemara. Thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream, the weather in this part of Ireland is normally quite mild at this time of year, with daytime temperature ranging from 2°C to 12°C (34°F-55°F).

Ireland The woodcock is a sporting quarry of the highest order, being renowned for a jinking flight and presenting a very challenging target. Birds are usually stalked on foot in areas bordering forestry plantations, natural woodlands, in stands of birch and areas of rough grassland and marginal bogland. In November shooting can be for a mixture of snipe and woodcock, and from late November until the end of January shooting is only for woodcock.

Ireland The ideal size of a group is 6 guns as this means there are enough guns to stalk a sizeable area at each time, the minimum number being two. To help whith the stalking the guns are accompanied by beaters with dogs.
Accommodation is based at hotels close to the shooting areas and each gun will have a private room. Breakfast and dinner are taken at the hotel and a packed lunch is taken to the shooting field.

Lakelands has an excellent walk up rough shoot for Ireland snipe and woodcock with many thousands hectares of forestry, bogland and rough land.

Location: South Ireland , 106 miles from Cork Airport, 120 miles from Shannon Airport.

Guide: One guide with a vehicle with every 2-3guns.

Dogs: Setters and Springers.

Each gun will have private room with bathroom.

Shootguns, Over/Under,Side by Side12/20 bore , cardridges 28-36 gramms / 6-8.

Travel Itinary:

Thursday 19th January. Day 1. At your arrival in Ireland /Shannon/Cork International Airport, you will pick up our self drive vehicle waiting for you at the airport. In the vehicle it will be complete detailed information road maps etc. on how to get to Waterville. At your arrival in Lakelands Farm Guesthouse the host´s Frank and Ann Donelly will welcome you and look after all your needs.

Friday 20th January. Day 2.

Saturday 21st January. Day 3.

Woodcock and Snipe shooting.

Sunday 22nd January. Day 4.

Woodcock and Snipe shooting.

Monday 23rd February . Day 5.

After breakfast you drive to the Cork or Shannon International Airport for home destination. There you return the car.

Euro:1.590.- pr. gun for the trip.

This price includes:

- Shooting for three full days.

- Full board/lodging 4 days/nights/private room with bathroom to each gun.

- 1 guide with vehicle and dogs for every 2 guns.

- Shooting licence.

- Documents and licences to bring you own gun in to Ireland.

- Extra vehicle for the whole trip 28 January until 01 February, unlimited international departure.

26.4.2010 : A lot of fish over 7lbs to land - Bairs lodge in the Bahamas

This week we have had some higher winds and seas, as a result the guides have been going into the creeks and finding good numbers of tailing fish. We have had many shots at some good sized tailers and have landed some beautiful fish. Several anglers have landed fish over 7 pounds.. Axelo axelo@lax-a.is

26.4.2010 : Wow, Loop has done it again!

This Evotec rod is sure to become a hit and an all time favourite! I must admit that I haven't had a better #6 rod in my hands - ever. And I've tried so many. This rod is just great at both close range and at 90 ft+. And it performs so beautifully with snake rolls and underhand casts aswell. The Opti Stillwater line is a perfect match for the 696. 25.4.2010 : River DEE in Scotland , 152 salmon this week.

Good fishing on the DEE , this week there where reported to www.fishdee.co.uk 152 salmon , biggest a 32 pounder from Woodend. Friday was a good day on the Lower Crathes / West Durris , 5 salmon landed, 12 for this week.

The trout fishing has just started here in Iceland and things are looking quite good. We have seen many big fish to land, very big fish, 12lbs, 14lbs, 18lbs and many smaller ones as well. The brown trout is now hungry like wolf, ready to attack the fly in first cast after his hard winter tale, bringing nice smiles to anglers face. 16.4.2010 : The Fishing Institute forecast good season for salmon in Iceland.

The annual meeting of the Fishing Institute of Iceland was hold last night in Reykjavik. Fishing scientist Gudni Gudbergsson reports good season for salmon this upcoming summer , in short the forecast is very good. Gudni says that our rivers are in a period of good years in terms of number of salmon and there is no reason for any changes for this summer. Arni arnibald@lax-a.is
