Austria Chamois
Chamois hunt in Austrian Alps
I went last 2nd to 5th Nóvember 2009 for 3 days Chamois hunt in the Austrian Alps , close to Innsbruck. What extreem fantastic trip , the hardest you can imagine but so awarding. Picture of me with a 1st class 9 years old Chamois Buck.
Tony one of my guides spotting a buck on a steep rocky hill in a 2000 meters high Alps.
Class 2 buck 6 years old , taken last minute .. on the way back to camp.
Gunther my guide searching for Chamois , look at this mountains , it takes a lot of efforts to stalk Chamois in areas like this , an it is dangerous you have to be very careful at every step you take.
Gunther and Tony have found a shootable female Chamois.
This is the area that Chamois like to stay in , Ibex will be found on the top of the mountain. It is a very stright and selective hunt , you are only alowed to hunt the Chamois under a stright quota which is a mix of few 1st class bucks , younger bucks and femails that need to be taken as well to balance the stock in the area , main issue is to keep the best and the most healty animals in the area.
Gunther up at 2000 meters high hunting ground , at the top the height is 3000 meters.
Gunther and Tony with Class 1 Buck.
I am here with class 3 female , long shoot of 250 meters, this one was standing on the right side on the edge of the cliff on top. Hard work to get it down as it got stocked in the middle of the cliffs while falling down.
In th.e middle of Chamois country.
One of the many stands in the area , you basically walk from one to another with a short stop for searching the Chamois.
Gunther walking up the canyons at first morning light, it is long day of hunt , starts at 07:00 in the morning and most often you are back after dark in the evening betweene 18 and 19:00 hours or later , remember you have to carry the Chamois all the way back, not a easy job!
It was my hardest hunting ever but the most interesting and enjoyable , and it is so healthy , you feel so much stronger after have hunted in the Austrian Alps for a few days !
