Fishing story from Tungufljot river - The river will be Challenged again
As good as the fishing trips are, the better are the stories afterwards. I went along with a domestic customer to Tungufljot in September 2009. On day number 1 our shift started at 15.00. We were a little late and therefore we met the other guys (6rods) in their vehicle. They said we should start on zone no 3 whereas we didn´t come to the draw.
We were ok with that and went along, got lost and started on the free zone (which I thought was zone 3). While walking towards the spots we discovered very fishy spot near our bank, so we moved from the bank, walked 10-15m further and there I made the first touch to the river. The micro tube (Hairy Mary) sat perfectly on the surface and sank quickly. After a minute, letting the fly go down river ca 10-12m I was going to pull the string in, then suddenly was impact.
What a feeling at the first touch of the river. The adrenalin was pumping wildly. My friend got ready to assist me. After 12 minutes of struggle there lay a 8lbs male Salmon on the bank. We discussed fishing in nearby places after this but decided let it be for 1 hour.
On the second shift at the beutiful waterfall FAXI we started fishing at 11.00. The other guys had been struggling with 2 fishes there and lost one. In the first touch of the river at that spot with Frances no. 12 the Salmon began the furious fight. The exitement was streaming through my body and while I was thinking of this creature suddenly I step forward to get balance right but the stone was not there and I fell in the river.
After standing up, frustrated thinking about the salmon all the time I gently lifted the rod again and... It was still there pounding my rod. After about 17minutes the beast was exhausted. My friend took over the rod and I gently took the salmon by it´s tail. After having so much struggle and joyful exitement I took the fly and let the fish go to the river again.
We catched few more but my thinking was always with that 14lbs fish that drew me in the river. Drinking my coffee, relaxing in the evening, having a super 3 course dinner the existense of nature came to me again and the feeling was owerwhelming.
This river is going to be challenged again.
