Kau Tapen in Rio Grande - Latest fishing news
Week of January 23 to January 29
We had a good week considering the river conditions. After a first very good session, the river started to rise due to the rains that were to be the consistent weather condition though the rest of the week resulting in a big rise on the water level, and a very coloured water. 33 beautiful silver bright fish were taken in ten sessions, were not all of the eight guests went fishing due to the hard conditions. Average weight was 10.5 pounds. 8 fish were over 15 pounds, and the biggest was a 22 pounder caught by Nicole Stroh.
Weather & Wind..
Moderately strong wind trough the week.
Air Temp..
Temperatures spanned from 4ŗc to 11ŗc
River Condition..
Rising waters trough the whole week and the Rio Grande clarity decreased consistently trough the week, the water is good between 11.5ŗc and 9.5ŗc
Tackle/Techniques..
After a first session were floating lines with intermediate sink tips were working good, we changed to heavier full sinking lines (300 grains, t4 shooting heads) as the river got bigger and more dirty.
Flies..
Medium size rubber legs patterns at the beginning. Then changed to big and heavy streamers on vivid colors: Chartreuse Leech was the best pattern.
Fresh news from Rio Grande every week..
All my best
