The Autumn fishing at Umba.

14.11.2006

Big Autumn Salmon in the most breathtaking nature and outstanding lodging Umba river Few salmon rivers on the Kola have affected salmon anglers from all over the world like the Umba. Since the early days, more than fifteen years ago, when the first pioneers fished this astonishing river, Umba has symbolised Russian salmon fishing with all its fascinating aspects. Umba can best be described as poetry in the salmon angler’s world.

Umba is an ideal choice
if you don’t like to travel by helicopter. Lax-a will run the prime fall weeks for big fresh autumn salmon – Umba is a “must” for the dedicated salmon angler who has fished all the big rivers.

Few Salmon Rivers on the Kola have affected Salmon anglers from all over the world like the Umba. Since the beginning, more than fifteen years ago, when the first pioneers fished this astonishing river, Umba has symbolised the Russian Salmon fishing with all its fascinating facets.

Umba is unique
and anglers from all over has travelled deep into the Russian Taiga to fish this fantastic river and the fishing is both intimate and dramatic – but I also believe that the close contact with the local people around the lodge has brought an extra dimension into the journey – something very special that you won't find on the other Kola rivers.

To watch life rolling through the small community of Pogorst when fishing the home pool takes you into another world - back to your grand grandfathers life when everything was more simple and not on a leach of cell phones and E – mails etc.

The romantic but also dramatic nature around Umba River is an important aspect that feeds even the highest expectation a fisherman can have – here you will find all kind of challenging water that can bring water in the mouth of the most hard core Salmon guys.

Fresh female from Junction Pool.

So as you can see there is no simple answer to the question - why Umba have this mysteries attraction on salmon fishermen - but after my three seasons away from Umba, it is obvious to me that Umba has been missed by a lot of anglers -me included!

umb2

Nick Podolski with a massive mail from the Home Pool.

Umba can best be described as poetry in the Salmon anglers world and now Lax-a can offer a Umba reunion to all of you - who have been longing for Umba in the past three seasons.

u3

Bernard Lunel with a nice female from the Doctors Pool.

We will try to keep the program in the old Umba spirit and atmosphere and with this classic program we will try to secure this beautiful place. I hope that a lot of old Umba friends - and hopefully also new comers - will come and fish the memorable pools of Umba and Krivetz together with me next autumn!

u2

Thanks good we will soon be back in the fantastic Umba Lodge enjoying the fireplace in the autumn evenings and fill in some nice and heavy salmon in the log book.

The new Sauna house.

All Anglers will have private room with bathroom.

Our Umba program will carry the finger prints from the past – A program that was loved and well known for attention to details.

u5

Umba is furthermore an ideal choice if you don’t like to travel in helicopters – the six hour bus drive from Murmanks down to Umba will give you an in sight and an interesting picture of the Kola peninsula. In some respect it is like a trip back through time and it will provide you with a special frame for your fishing trip - a quite different perspective compared with the usual helicopter fare from Murmansk to the river.

u12

The ladies at the Umba kitchen , they feed us well.

u10

It seem that the autumn fishing attract a special kind of anglers – Maybe because this time of the year you don’t fish so hard as in the long “White Nights” during the summer period.

u3

The Umba lodge.

The daily fishing starts after Breakfast approx 09.00 and continue until Lunch where approx half of the 10 rods will return to the main Lodge for Lunch – the other half of the group will have a bank side lunch together with the guide at one of the fireplaces we have along the spectacular Krivetz stretch.

L1040034

The daily fishing stops around 19.00 and dinner will be served at 20.00 In the lodge. After that the program is off schedule and usually- social relaxation in front the Lodge’s big fireplaces where the air soon will be filled with good stories and some “few” cosy lies as in the old days.

26.4.2010 : Wow, Loop has done it again!

This Evotec rod is sure to become a hit and an all time favourite! I must admit that I haven't had a better #6 rod in my hands - ever. And I've tried so many. This rod is just great at both close range and at 90 ft+. And it performs so beautifully with snake rolls and underhand casts aswell. The Opti Stillwater line is a perfect match for the 696. 22.4.2010 : LAX-A IS BOOKING RUSSIA'S TOP RANKED PONOI RIVER FOR ONLY A SINGLE WEEK IN 2010.

ONLY TWO RODS REMAIN TO JOIN ME AT THE RENOWED BREVYENi CAMP JUNE 26 - JULY 3. Here is your chance to fish the finest salmon water in the world and lodge at the famed Brevyeni Camp at the same time. Brevyeni is considered by many to be the finest of all Russian lodges and will fish only 8 rods each housed in individual charming log cabins on the banks of this great river. I fished the Brevyeni Camp in June of 2008 and can tell you straight up,it was the best fishing I have ever experienced in 25 years of chasiong the king of fish around the world. I will be back at Brevyeni once again in just a few more weeks and I am as excited about returning as I was on my first ever trip to this high tundra wilderness wonderland. You can literally fish around the clock under the midnight sun but I'm sure you will find the fishing so damn good there will be no need to bust your butt building numbers. Everyone catches lots of salmon and some big brutes in the mix to boot. The lodging is unexcelled for wilderness accomodation, the guides speak good English and are both personalble and knowledgeable. The food is great, the vodka chilled and the ambiance spellbinding. This is a fantastic opportunity to capture a dream of a lifetime. I can't wait to return. Give me a call with any questions you may have and hopefully grab one of the last two spots in 2010 on the Ponoi. Time is running out. Lots to do to get ready.
