Great fly fishing in Hafralonsa
6 rods just became available in Hafralonsá from July 30th to August 2nd (noon - noon)
Hafralonsá is a perfect fly river. It is located North East and by many considered one of the very best river Iceland has to offer.
Set in the glorious wilderness of the northeast coast lies Hafralonsá which we call the big fish river. Hafralonsá is famous for its big two winter salmon and is one of the most challenging and yet rewarding rivers in all of Iceland
The beauty of the river and its surroundings is breathtaking. The lower section of the river is typical of many of our rivers, flowing through pastoral farmland. As you move up the river, through the spectacular canyon, and above the falls, where you will find miles of pristine fly water, you are alone with the salmon in a magnificent wilderness, untouched by man.
Hafralónsá will never be called and easy river. It is a river where the salmon angler must employ all his knowledge and techiques. However, equal to the challenge, the rewards can be some of the most memorable moments in your fishing experience! Small flies and the hitch tube fished with single-handed rods are frequently the best medicine on Hafralónsá. If that fails, try fast stripping a long sunrise shadow tube across the pool, and hang on! Many find it surpricing, how deadly this technique is. And hooking these beauties is just the beguinning of the challange. Fighting these large salmon down the canyons on a light rod will test your skills.
The lodge is very nice with 6 rooms, sharing 4 bathrooms. You can either have full service at the lodge or arrange your own meals while fishing the river.
