West Ranga 2006
The lovely West Ranga river finished with close to 3000 salmon caught this season, which is quite good.
The number of rods were increased to 16 last year by adding a top beat to the river. That did not work as well as we expected so after a meeting with the land owners this fall, it was decided to sell only 14 rods for 2006. Which is a pleasing decission for our West Ranga anglers.
Although West Ranga is known for its good salmon fishing not many know about the good sea trout fishing in April.
Here you see how the season looks like for West Ranga:
April 1st to May 1st - 4 rods (sea trout fishing)
June 23rd to July 4th - 12 rods
July 4th to October 10th - 14 rods
There are 16 twin rooms in West Ranga lodge, all w/private bathroom and shower.
Prime time is long in West Ranga, the salmon can start arriving early but prime time is starting around July 10th and goes on through August. Still there is usually very good fishing in the river and fresh fish coming in until the end of the season. This year was an exception but due to the very cold weather in September the fishing was not quite as good as for the last years.
West Ranga is located in about one hours drive from Reykjavik which makes it ideal to go to for a "long weekend fishing". There will be three airlines flying to Iceland from London: www.icelandair.is, www.icelandexpress.is and www.ba.com
