News from KauTaPen - 113 fish landed this week!!
Week of January 06 to February 12
Finally the river started to be as friendly as it’s supposed to be by this time of the season. The water conditions were almost perfect this week, allowing us to wade across to fish every pool from the bank that we might prefer. The only factor that was against us was the wind, that was mainly from de east by south-east, meaning upstream wind, making every presentation more difficult. Beside that this was the best week so far this season, and we all hope keeps improving. This week group of anglers was an “Eclectic” group, with people from many different places. This was certainly a very enjoyable week for all of us in Kau-Tapen and we hope to see them anglers again next season.
Fish: 113 fish were landed, with a 94.7% of silver fresh fish. The average weight was 8.2 pounds. We had 27 fish over 15 pounds and 4 over 20. The biggest was a beautiful 27 pounder caught by Mr. Ole Petterson, from Norway.
Weather: The wind was moderate to light wind trough the week. Mainly upstream, with air temp spanning from 0ŗc to 22ŗc
River Condition: Water level was Ideal for all the pools, and The Rio Grande and Menendez clarity kept increasing through the week. The water temp was Between 6ŗc and 13°c
Tackle/Techniques - Rods/Lines: The most common choice were double handed rods, but to fish Menendez we strongly recommend single handed rods. Most of the fish were taken on sink-tip lines. Intermediate and slow sinking tips.
Flies: Sun-Ray Shadow, Collie Dog, Rubber legged nymph, green machine, wonder bug and for the last hour, of course, the big black leech.
