Fishing Report from Villa Maria - 27 lbs fish to land
Week 12th of Feb - 19th Feb
This week we have welcomed another group of familiar faces, 3 from Iceland, and 2 from Germany. They all have fished the Rio Grande before. They are all good fisherman having fished all over the world! We started the week with a bit of coloured water from last week but clearing up and dropping consequently promising a very good week, and what a week!
We started the week with a bit of coloured water from last week but clearing up and dropping consequently promising a very good week, and what a week!
The “warm up session” brought us a note worthy 22 pounder fish for Gulli and some other good fish. Then for first of the week, fishing deep with most of the time two flies together, the “lethal weapon”, using a combination of a Snaelda and a leech, Gulli, fishing from the high bank because the river was not crossable, hooked and landed after a thrilling fight a big hen fish weighting 27 pounds! The new seasonal record of Villa Maria. Every week we are breaking a new record!
During the week we faced a lot of different situation of fishing as we started to fish with heavy line and big flies (leech, Snaelda, tube fly,?) switching to lighter line and flies and finishing the week fishing with nymph and even with dry flies and hitching!
We had great fun hitching the last afternoon as the water temperature came up to 13°C, and the fish willing to give us a lot of surface action!
We have caught a lot of fish with lighter lines, fishing with floating line and sink tip. Almost for the first time of the season we could fish for several days with nymph and rubber legs streamers and nymphs, no more big leech and flies combination using heavy lines.
We had a great week and had a lot of fun as the “General”, Botli, and his two friends, Gulli and Jon, made their show every day and were very fun to be around! We ended having a singing party for our last dinner between guides and guests. All nationalities of people had to sing their song! What a funny party!
Thanks to all of our guests for this warm moment and their good mood!
As usual at Villa Maria with had a terrific week, for both fishing and having great moment with our guests!
