Kau TaPen fishing News - 42 fish to land
After an excellent warm-up session on Saturday evening, with the river getting better and better, the Rio Grande decided to show us it’s most unfriendly side. Around Saturday 4pm it started to rain heavily and it kept like that for about 18 hours. By Sunday 10am we started to see the effects of the consistent rain and in a matter of hours the river rose over a foot and the water got colored enough to not to be able to see anything beyond an inch.
From that moment on the only thing in our power was to wait for better conditions. Monday was a resting day, and also a casting instruction day. The other alternative that came along, was a fly tying master class dictated by our very own master fly tier, Mr. Pelle “The Professor” Tronde.
This week, almost all our gests were first timers fishing Rio Grande and they did not give up hope despite the conditions. By Tuesday, though the conditions had not improved at all, Kau-Tapen anglers went out to the river mainly to adjust details on their casting technique.
That same day the river decided to rise even more, but luckily by Wednesday everything started to get in a better shape. The river started to drop quickly and clear. From this moment on we saw some action, landing some beautiful silver fresh fish, a welcome sight after three days without seeing any! In what was left for the week things kept improving resulting in more and more fish in the net.
We ended up landing 42 fresh seatrout with an average weight of 8.5pounds.
Weather was Moderate to strong wind trough the week. Temperatures spanned from 0ŗc to 12ŗc
The water level in the river was the Highest level in many years for this time of the season
Clarity: The Rio Grande and Menendez clarity increased consistently through the week as soon as the rain stopped. The water temp was Between 6ŗc and 9ŗc
Rods/Lines: Fast full sinking lines onevery Pool was the best option, although we landed some fish on sink-tip lines.
Flies: The only fly really getting results was the biggest black
