Bella Vista Fishing Report - Average weight of 11.47lbs!!
Another great week of fishing has now ended. This time we had the pleasure of welcoming to our lodge Ives and B. Bunny, who came from the Switzerland, and were all new customers. We had some memorable moments this week because our new clients were learning to spey cast for a day and a half and, after a lot of hard work, they started catching sea trout. Also, some guide staff had the time to have a few casts in new places and we were very happy with what we found.
This week we caught many nice fish and ended the week with an average weight of 11,47 lbs!!!! 18 of the sea trout landed were bigger than 5 lbs and we lost 12 fish. The weather was less than accommodating this past week; we had two days with strong winds but because of the perseverance of our guests we still managed to land a good number of nice fish.
River Conditions.. The water level was perfect at the beginning of the week and then it started dropping slowly every day. It is still the color of a strong tea for the moment. Water temperature was between 8 ŗC and 12.9 ŗC. The water was Quite dark because of the big rise at the end of the previous week. Water level dropped for the whole week.
Fishing Conditions.. Fishing was consistently good for the whole week and we ended with a nice average weight: 11,47 lbs. Some days the water was colder than we would ideally like, especially during the mornings and after quite cold nights. During the day the wind was blowing sometimes as hard as 25 miles an hour and we also caught some of resident browns in the Gallegos Chico River.
Fly lines used.. We used only floating lines (PowerSpey Versitip and Skagit Heads) with type six sink tips were necessary and intermediate tips last three days.
Fishing Techniques.. The water was flowing fast enough that simply jigging or slowly stripping the line induced plenty of action.
Flies Used.. We used a lot of small flies during the day and many different kinds of leech patterns when the sun went down.
Big fish for the week..
1 of 19 lbs, 3 fish between 15 and 18 lbs, and many medium fish . Average weight: 11.47 lbs. Nice!!!
Conditions of the fish:
Most of the sea trout were females but some were males. Most of them were very fresh or turning.
