Villa Maria Fishing Report - Biggest fish a superb 24lbs
This week we have welcomed a full group of repeaters. 4 from USA, and 2 from the French part of Switzerland. They have been coming from years and know the river very well.
The last day of fishing of the previous week (Thursday) was a productive one and our last guest went back home with a great week under his belt. We were then very surprised when we went out for the “Warm up session” the next day and watched as the water all of a sudden rose very quickly and became very coloured, with visibility of around an inch! The rain that we had seen during the previous week had arrived suddenly and the pools almost disappeared under the huge volume of water.
By Saturday things had not improved and the river was almost un-fishable so we decided to come back at the lodge, where we held a fly tying session to show some tying tricks to the guests and made alternative plans for the next day.
For our alternative program we went to fish Lago Escondido with an Ushuaia company providing guides and boats.
Our guests fished the lake both from the bank, where small clear tributaries where coming in, and also from the boat.
The scenery is wonderful and the fishing very exciting as you have to cast from the boat towards the shore, where hiding amongst the logs the trout are waiting for your flies. The water there is crystal clear, and it is great fun to fish this beautiful lake. Lunch was an “asado” on the lake bank and the guides provided great entertainment. The highlight of the day was a beautiful 4 lb brook trout.
On Monday we returned to Rio Grande, where conditions where still tough, but as the water started to clear up and drop, the fishing improved. We ended the week with 10 fish, and landed two particularly noteworthy fish, a 20 and 24 pounder! Michel landed this stunning 24 lb fish after a great fight. It was a thoroughly well deserved reward for the dedication he showed during a tricky week.

Our guest were very pleased to have decided to stay and were rewarded by some good fishing at the end of their week.
They all had great time either on the river with their guides and enjoyed the fine cuisine the Sebastian, whom always cooks incredible local and international dishes.
We look forward to them returning someday to repeat the unique experience of fishing the best sea trout river in the world!
