SOMETIMES THE FLY EVERYONE SAYS WILL NOT WORK IS JUST THE TICKET
A few years ago I sat pondering at my tying bench thinking how good green is on Canada's famed Bonaventure River. I took every green feather and floss in my bench and tied a fly so garish that I ended up calling it Seasick. The following September after fishing one of my favorite Bonaventure pools all day without a single swirl. jump or strike, I remembered my little fly Seasick, As I went to tie it on, my guide mumbled something about it will never work...too much green. Undeterred, I had a special feeling and i was determined to give it my best shot. It was the last pass of the day and there was nothing to loose. On about the fourth cast, a huge salmon exploded out of the depths of a fast rip and hit the fly like someone had thrown a bathtub into the pool. It was the biggest salmon I had ever seen and it was on the end of my 8 pound tippet with floating line. After many long runs and endless stretches of powerful head shakes in the deep current, this huge salmon of some forty pounds was in hand. As I happily released this monster back into the emerald depths i smiled at the guide and said too much green indeed.
Camp Bonaventure fishes three storied rivers, The Bonaventure, the Petit Cascapedia, and the famous Grand Cascapedia. Camp Bonaventure prides itself on providing its guests with a world class-sporting holiday in a magnificent lodge on the banks of the enchanting Bonaventure River. Spaces are very hard to come by and sell out early. If you do get a spot I would suggest taking at least a few casts with Seasick. You just never know.
Anyone booking Camp Bonaventure for 2010 will receive their own hand tied Seasick fly from a guy who knows for a fact it works.
Give me a call to review the very few good spots still available in 2010.
