The Rubber Leg
The Rubber leg
One of the most charming part in Salmon fishing must be the flies and the never ending discussions how to fish them the right way – probably salmon fishing is the most established game in Fly-fishing – and nothing really have change during the last many many generations. Of cause most of the fly tackle has change – Carbon rods and clothing in all sorts of high tech material have make our life easier for all of us.
But - I still favour my old Hardy reels beyond other reels– probably because they represent something very classic and old fashion – These reels will never let you down or fail (I don’t get any commission writing this – believe me guys).
Okay back to the flies – Why a Salmon rise from the deep to grab a small fly nobody really knows – there are hundreds of theories and most of them sound rational – some absolutely doesn’t!
Here it comes - next time you are going to fish your favourite river try to fish the pool with some complete different – dry fly – riffling hitch – a complete “wrong” fly – you got what I means?
I love to do these sort of experiments – some years ago I tired a big Rubber legs on a long streamer hook and went out and caught a 24 lbs. silver bright Ponoi Salmon on this absolutely disgusting creature – I have several times since, tried the “rubber leg trick” with big triumph – if you have fished Patagonia for Sea rum brown trout you probably have a bunch of Rubber legs in your bow boxes – keep them in mind next time you heading a “Salmon stream”.
Good weekend to all
