Lax-a is now offering fishing on one of the most sought after Steelhead rivers in the world.
Ah... to put a hook into an Umpqua steelhead,... Now that’s what a dream coming true is all about. This legendary fishery has probably been photgraphed for its sheer awesome beauty more than any water in North America. And, beauty not withstanding, it also holds more than its fair share of hard charging steelies that will get your heart pumping from the get go. Lax-a has recently added the Umpqua to our already outstanding reservoir of world class waters and would be proud to send you on an adventure that you may never tire of talking about.
Fishing on the Umpqua will be a combination of walk and wade trips in the designated "Fly Fishing Only" section of the North Umpqua and float trips below that section of the North Umpqua and the main section of the Umpqua which will still require some wading.
Depending on how the runs are moving and where they are located, fishing could change day to day. Fish size on averge is between 6-9 pounds. There are a few smaller fish as well as some that reach into the 15 pound range.
Certain times of year, July, Sept., and early Oct., these fish can be taken on dry flies being skated. We practice a strict catch and release policy on all steelhead. There are only 3-5 permits for guiding in the fly only water of the North Umpqua so your guides are very well versed on the waters you will be fishing.
Both spey and single handed rods can work here although during higher water flows, the two handers will certianly have the "upper hand" if you will. 7-10 wt. rods recommended with multi tip lines. All flies are included but we are happy to provide a fly list with recipes on how to tie them for those who like to use their own. Oct. can also produce some chinook and coho salmon fishing on the mainstem as well.
The Umpqua is located in the southwestern portion of the state of Oregon. Just east of Roseburg is where the North Umpqua is located and the mainstem extends from their to the coast through Elkton, slightly northwest of Roseburg.
Lodging for this trip is at a modern yet rusticly appointed log house situated on the lower end of the North Umpqua near Glide, Oregon. Much of the water near the house is quite fishable and has the feel of private water as most anglers do not fish this water as access is extremely difficult.
Some of the float trips will end back at the cabin. The house has full amenities with pool table, outside decks, very comfortable living areas, showers and full kitchen.
Fly tying and drying room also for clients use. There will also be an apartment separate from the cabin with living quarters as well in the next year. It should be known that this is meant to be a very intimate experience as there is nothing like this available much less offered on this river.
The price for 7 nights lodging/6 days fishing trip includes the following and is based on 4 anglers arriving for the same week with 4 anglers maximum:

Fishing Licenses for the week.
All flies, leaders and tippet as well as any gear that may have not made the trip due to lost bags. We will provide Simms/Patagonia waders and boots and Winston/Scott/Sage rods and reels to anyone in this situation or someone wanting to try some new rods.
Season available will be Feb.- March, July, Sept.- Oct.
