WORLD CLASS ATLANTIC SALMON FISHING ON CANADA'S STORIED GASPE PENISINSULA

Malbaie River Outfitters Lodge is located on the Eastern end of Canada’s Gaspe Peninsula and was built in the early 1930’s with comfort in mind. It is run by Bill and Bonnie Greiner who are second-generation owners. A highly trained staff looks after the guests to ensure all a memorable experience.

mal-11The lodge itself is perched on nearly 1000 pristine acres in the middle of the best Atlantic Salmon fishing that Canada offers with eight different salmon rivers all reached by an easy drive. Each river presents it's own unique opportunities to sight cast to the world’s best fresh water game fish. Our experienced guides will ensure that all clients have an enjoyable and memorable fishing experience.

We can accommodate individual anglers and non-fishing companions alike as well groups of up to 16 depending upon the season. Malbaie River Outfitters has the perfect setting for corporate groups as well.

mal1Our guests have the option of staying in the main lodge or in newly constructed private chalets. The main lodge can accommodate 12 guests. Two of the guest bedrooms have their own rustic fireplaces. The spacious living room has a beautiful stone fireplace and a high cathedral ceiling. It is the perfect gathering place after a day on the water. The oversized screened porch is the ideal spot to recap the day's activities while listening to the rush of the Malbaie River.

Clients are treated to exquisite meals prepared by gourmet chef Noreen Hackett. Breakfast and supper are eaten at the lodge, while lunch is on the river. Depending upon the river, clients can enjoy superbly prepared shore lunches. Let us know if there are any dietary considerations and our kitchen staff will customize a menu for your comfort.

mal4

For non-fishing guests we are conveniently located close to the popular vacation town of Perce which is world-renowned Perce Rock. Visitors can walk out to the Rock at low tide or take a boat tour around it. Just off the Rock is Bonaventure Island, a bird sanctuary, which is home to millions of nesting sea birds. Other possibilities include a nearby championship golf course, whale watching, day spas, and horseback riding.

We are located twelve hours north of Boston on the tip of Quebec's Gaspe peninsula. Clients can reach us by car, plane, and train. Gaspe's airport is located twenty minutes from the lodge and is serviced by three daily flights from Air Canada and Quebec Air. The recent runway expansion allows for larger private jets as well. Overnight train service from Montreal  to nearby Barachois station is available three times per week. We will pick you up at either the airport or trains station upon your arrival.

mal-5Our fishing season runs from June 1 through September 30. We fish a total of 8 different rivers from the lodge. Each river gets a different run of salmon which gives us the opportunity to select the most productive rivers for our clients. Some of the water offers a chance at feisty sea-run brook trout along with the salmon.

June is mostly wet fly fishing for large Atlantic Salmon. Many of the fish caught in June are 20lbs or larger. The largest salmon which migrate into the rivers will enter in June.

mal-9

July and August are the best times to catch Atlantic Salmon on dry flies. As the water warms up into the 50's and 60's,  salmon rise well to surface flies which include bombers, wulffs, bugs, and stoneflies.
August and September are the best times to have multiple fish days. The pools this time of year hold large numbers of salmon; some holding pools will have 400-500 salmon. As the waters begin to cool down the large salmon become aggressive again. The chance of catching a 40 pound salmon is certainly possible.

mal15

Malbaie River Outfitters Lodge fishes all eight of these legendary rivers.

All rivers we fish are strictly Catch and Release fishing,

mal-4

Dartmouth...Incredible scenery and really great water.

mal13

Grande...Classic pools and easy to fish. A consistently great producer.

mal-1

Malbaie...Beautiful water running and close to the Lodge.

mal10

St Jean...Gin clear  water and a dry fly paradise.

mal14

York...BIG fish always possible in a drop dead gorgeous setting.

mal11

North Pabos,  West Pabos, and Petite Pabos... Remote , fantastic         water. Large Sea-Run brook trout.

mal9

Guests determine their fishing schedules and can fish from dawn to dusk if they like. The guides and staff will arrange fishing and meal times to accommodate the clients.

mal12

Eight and nine weight rods with floating lines are ideal for most fishing conditions. Spey rods can offer a useful advantage in early June and during periods of high water levels. When the water temperatures drop into the 40's (early June and late September) sinking lines or leaders help improve the fishing.

mal-6

We generally fish wet flies in June and September and dry flies in July and August. As the season progresses and the rivers drop, smaller flies become more productive. Due to the clarity of the rivers, we use clear leaders and avoid brightly colored fly lines whenever possible.

mal-2

You should certainly bring along all of your favorite salmon flies.  Many of the top producing flies, however, are not found in fly shops or are tied a bit differently than standard patterns. We sell custom-tied flies at the lodge that are suitable for the various months and conditions.  We are happy to put together a custom package of flies that will be ready when you arrive at the lodge.  We also sell flies and hand-tied leaders. Rental equipment can be arranged for with advanced planning for a nominal charge. Please inquire when  making reservations

THE ONLY THING MORE EXCITING THAN SIGHT CASTING TO A MONSTER SALMON IN CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER IS WATCHING IT RISE FROM 20 FEET AWAY TO SLAM YOUR BIG GREEN BOMBER.

This is not some far fetched tale. You simply will not believe how clear the water and how big the fish are lying in it on the magnificent rivers of Canada’s Eastern end of the world famous Gaspe Penisula. We had 3 forty pounders taken in September alone this past season and more over twenty than you could shake a stick at. The opportunites are wide and varied and the chance to fish any one of our 8 rivers is a chance to take a big salmon. And with eight great rivers at our command there are always big fish to chase somewhere. June and September are great months for Wets and July and August for Dries. Enjoy our beautiful scenery, great fishing, abondant wildlife and inviting accommodations. Give me a call before all our 2006 openings fill up. It won’t be long,

This Evotec rod is sure to become a hit and an all time favourite! I must admit that I haven't had a better #6 rod in my hands - ever. And I've tried so many. This rod is just great at both close range and at 90 ft+. And it performs so beautifully with snake rolls and underhand casts aswell. The Opti Stillwater line is a perfect match for the 696. 22.4.2010 : LAX-A IS BOOKING RUSSIA'S TOP RANKED PONOI RIVER FOR ONLY A SINGLE WEEK IN 2010.

ONLY TWO RODS REMAIN TO JOIN ME AT THE RENOWED BREVYENi CAMP JUNE 26 - JULY 3. Here is your chance to fish the finest salmon water in the world and lodge at the famed Brevyeni Camp at the same time. Brevyeni is considered by many to be the finest of all Russian lodges and will fish only 8 rods each housed in individual charming log cabins on the banks of this great river. I fished the Brevyeni Camp in June of 2008 and can tell you straight up,it was the best fishing I have ever experienced in 25 years of chasiong the king of fish around the world. I will be back at Brevyeni once again in just a few more weeks and I am as excited about returning as I was on my first ever trip to this high tundra wilderness wonderland. You can literally fish around the clock under the midnight sun but I'm sure you will find the fishing so damn good there will be no need to bust your butt building numbers. Everyone catches lots of salmon and some big brutes in the mix to boot. The lodging is unexcelled for wilderness accomodation, the guides speak good English and are both personalble and knowledgeable. The food is great, the vodka chilled and the ambiance spellbinding. This is a fantastic opportunity to capture a dream of a lifetime. I can't wait to return. Give me a call with any questions you may have and hopefully grab one of the last two spots in 2010 on the Ponoi. Time is running out. Lots to do to get ready.
